Olden Days

We decided t’ be re-tired today; not in th’ radial 

sense, tho’ it has more going for it than we’d be 

able to defend; like a range of exotic choices th’ 

extent of which most retirees never do consider 

beyond a self-funded argument; th’ rest you’ve, 

one way o’ another, been taxed for already; tho’ 

generally th’ more you get, th' less you’ve been 

assessed of self-sufficiency as in their measure 

We agree we’re not on th’ Pirelli team, but there 

is, so to speak, bonus being an ex-Government 

employee; a compulsory superannuation meant 

you’re getting back the interest on what you put 

in; altho th’ longer you stayed putting up with all 

that shit makes th’ gratuitous edge abrade a bit 

So now we’re out o’ th’ can we’ll break tradition 

o’ being quietly content & make our rationale go 

get - so where does one go f’ th’ info - they say 

retirees haircuts are where you can hear all that 

gossip on who’s doing what to whom - & when; 

crikey, it’ll be just like we’re back in Olden Days
