Heavens’s Lunchbox

Taking time to palpitate a staid palate too often left
to assuage its own patronage made this ‘lunchbox’
treat th’ bees-knees; we took time t’ muster a lamb
burger out of th’ freezer. Okay, not an easy task for
aged farm boys used to having th' pick of the mob
at their fingertips - and need I say the process one
uses t’ thaw the things trips one’s sense of calm to
a tizzy - microwaves can do that with vicious ease

But we succeeded, while a seemly frypan awaited
with panache gained from them days of hardwood
embers, & meanwhile a grilled slice of Turkish Pide
stayed calmly warm awaiting further ministrations;
I’d say sesame seeds are the all-time winner there
regardless of how well-grilled that roll’s gonna be

By this stage the saliva was amok as aromas vied
in concert to decide discrete ways to snag a taste
without upsetting the presentation - but we made
it to the end - splotched the buns genteelly with a
ketchup made in the same Heaven as th’ burgers,
and ate with a gusto we’ve agreed to keep tamed
