Off The Scale

There are times when nothing else can be considered
right for a meal you pretend doesn’t matter - and then
it commends itself with th’ most amenable flattery and
original, majestically unchallengeable innuendo that’s
likely elsewhere to be considered indisputable fare -

but not here and not now; grilled steak & prawns don’t
get a glance as the effort steps out of hand nor does a
pan of hash browns no matter how close to rösti it may
counterfeit affectation; & thus we’re left with a scene in
slow motion with a can of baked beans cheering alone

better mention pita bread pockets - without ‘em we’ve
only got half a chance - & some grated cheese - it will
enhance sensuous flavours laced unconsciously we’ll
quail about later; now you do get th’ picture don’t you,
its a boys dinner where scandalously, nothing’s fancy

but the gustatory meter flies right off the scale …
