The Barmy Army’s here again with the Magellan
Ashes contained in its urn of complicity - I can’t
guess whose turn it is to win, the duplicity of an
oblique and ‘satirical’ obituary dating from 1882
suggests many a body’s ‘buried’ in fields where
they’ve played - perhaps it’s best to let them lie
in relative peace, subject to an umpire’s decree
as to who, and or what, keeps this legend alive
They’re at th’ Gabba today - and already ABC’s
newscasters have debased any sense of a true
perspective by raving repeatedly & playing their
excerpts purported t’ be the way all us Aussies
go crazy when the lads take to the field; maybe
I’d best listen to their commentary to stay sane
Imagine - all of this came to a head in that time
we’d like to believe as th’ ‘sanctuary’ dedicated
to peace and sobriety before the bell tolled and
first ball of the opening over was even bowled -
but it’s Cricket, and we’re playing England - so,
no choice now but to go with the flow …
