A Peach Of A Nectarine



Nobody told me nectarines were peaches way 
back when, th’ late 1940’s actually; surely then 
I’d have disagreed, they clearly ain’t furry as y’ 
can see & taste better; look, we hafta beat the 
‘possums to ‘em as they know the difference - 
won’t go for peaches until none are left, & we 
battle ‘em for decent shares - all of this while 
gorging ourselves t’ into mad states of satiety 

Now here we are seventy years later, agreeing 
there may be some element of sanity in origin 
of the species; so the saying is nectarines are 
peaches with smooth skins - well hey, I won’t 
disagree, saying it is a peachy way of getting 
‘em back on th’ tree so we can eat 'em first …
