In His Dotage

Being ahead of the pack wont make this race a
sinecure: altho that nearly equates to positively
brilliant thinking, emptying th’ dust bag from th’
vacuum cleaner certainly meant you‘ve had lap
one tagged a success & sweetly won - the rest,
however, are different matters; there’s hairiness
to contend with: th’ beast who takes first place
in hirsute littering doesn’t ever see it that way -

He’s a canine expression of Jack Russell-ness;
it isn’t a theory: more philosophy of living calm,
content and well fed, with expressions of alarm
when he sees deviations from the norm he has
structured astutely into his owners purview; on
reflection you’d suggest it’s a one-way street -

But with vacuum cleaner back in its niche, and
Podge resting feet-up, we’re neatly tidied; that
particular spot is usually where he can see ‘his’
fridge clearly - keeping checks on what comes
in & that which goes out and to where - there’s
nought he’ll miss dare I say, even in his dotage
