A Day Like Today

And then there’s th’ despair that a day like today
can forsake all of th’ inroads we’d made; if we’re
anywhere near The Square & still breathing, we’ll
be inclined to celebrate. Altho’ there’s still a long
way to go that relief is actually a stimulant which,
while seemingly innocent, wakes th' lamest, and
they see with deference we far-sighted wore out
in a long-ago extenuation of their raw gullibility -

But they are the seeds; and here on in this quest
we’re redressed by vigour o’ singular complicity;
the aim’s t’ progress & we’ll deem it th’ congress
of concupiscence - leastways we share appetite,
and there will be time for recovery - if its needed,
while we’ll have regained custody of The Square
