Seven’s Precedent

If we had to seriously agree on the better way to
present a series of games of rugby then we’d be
hard pressed, & blinkered, doing less than 7s do

The weekend contest in Hamilton NZ impressed
hugely; as well as being entertaining their variety
in presentation overcame a usually egomaniacal

Paradox of who’s to blame for this farce, viewed
impartially of course - tho cynicism stays etched
in a tyro’s face, who ‘played better’ than they do

Yes, they stepped away from analytic trash we’d
gotten used to, letting Crowd & players entertain
with zeal and energy you don’t often get to see -

And that made it worth joining in: altho’ in reality
top-level Sevens exponents aren’t freed on-field
behaviours determined t’ keep the game clean -

But they seem quite happy to obey - we saw an
open contest without usually rabid parochialism
reflected in ‘our-team-only’ narrowness of view
