Question Of Loyalty

When the question of loyalty arises its best t’ be
fair-dinkum about what your true fidelity entails -

Mama’s chocolate cake makes a better basis for
deciding which confection takes first prize or am

I being trite to the extent of letting ‘personalities’
decide; the game’s Rugby after all, quaintly-iced

With regional inclinations f’ ‘urbane decorations’
all suitably stuffed with seemly ‘raisons d’être’ -

Yet ignoring bases essential t’ the nature of this
sport’s inimitably ‘Great status & Sacred origin’

The Game matters more than all colours worn t’
depict who’s-who on and off th’ paddock, & it’s

Been that way for th’ millennium since then; but
patrimony now declares who is to be your team

Or your inheritance’s nulled - and vilified, unless
you stand clear o’ th’ popularised argy-bargy as

To whom is supreme; it is ‘The Game’, I declare,
not Chieka or Hooper with the penchant t’ lose,

Michael’s to a man, and who seem incapable of
viewing it’s th’ sport not egotism which matters;

Losing to The All Blacks again doesn’t better th’
argument f’ continuing their roles as Coach and

Captain unless we’ve decided to let ‘em resign -
and it’d be the very best of a symbolic gesture
